Agentic AI Foundation
The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) is a Linux Foundation directed fund that provides neutral, vendor-independent governance for open agentic AI infrastructure — protocols, frameworks, and conventions that let AI agents interoperate seamlessly across vendors and platforms.
Founded on December 9, 2025 by Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI, AAIF launched with three founding projects: Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (10,000+ servers), Block's goose agent framework, and OpenAI's AGENTS.md (60,000+ open-source adopters). Eight Platinum members — including AWS, Google, Microsoft, Bloomberg, and Cloudflare — fund the foundation's operations.
MCP, before AAIF, was a single-vendor Anthropic project. Under AAIF governance, its technical direction is guided by a community Standards Enhancement Process (SEP), giving ChatGPT, Cursor, and Gemini equal standing with Claude as MCP clients — and removing the risk any one company controls the spec.
Think of AAIF as the W3C for AI agents: neutral ground where competing cloud giants agree on the plumbing.

Why is it emerging now?
Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI co-founded AAIF on Dec 9, 2025 to prevent agent infrastructure from fracturing into vendor silos. In five months it grew to 170+ members including JPMorgan Chase, Red Hat, and Uber — validating that enterprises need a neutral arbiter as AI agents enter production.
Outlook
6-month signal projection and commercial timeline.
170+ members across financial services, cloud, and enterprise software signals AAIF is becoming the default governance home for agentic standards.
Risk · Platinum paywall governance could fragment the community if influential open-source projects bypass the foundation.

JPMorgan Chase, American Express, and Red Hat joined in February. They're not paying $10,000 for a sticker — they're buying a seat at the table where MCP and AGENTS.md standards get written.
Anthropic open-sourced MCP in November 2024 and watched it become 'the industry standard' in one year — then handed governance to a foundation. Why would they give up that leverage?
